And when grime was going on and I was at school with kids spitting in my form room. This is incredibly refreshing, so really I want to ask is where did you find your sound?Ĭoops: I suppose it’s come off the back of me starting later and not getting involved in the grime scene. Yet your sound could not be any further away from that. And now it appears that with French Montana hopping on don’t waste my time and with Kanye bringing out Skepta on stage the other week and there is a big focus on grime and the UK.

Me: don’t worry, I was talking to Kem before and how now the music industry especially with hip hop and rap has always been based out of the States. These of course being only a few to mention and you take this with your flow and style drawn in with your production brings me to my first question. Then with features of artists like Benny Banks and impressive tacks like Odyssey, Pass the Weed and Half Time. Me: International Politics, which is quite interesting as politics and society, is defiantly a theme in your music and that is very striking. Me: Yeh man tell me about it I’m up at NewcastleĬoops: oh shit that’s pretty far what do you study So I go back to it you stated this at uni?Ĭoops: I started solo music at Uni and that’s where I met my producer TalosĬoops: I was up at uni in Southampton Solvent so not far away but fair away for me (Laughs) A very very good piece of work, it was in fact that same friend Cameron that put me onto it. And then last summer you came out with Lost Souls.

I had to point out to him that is was in fact originally a Lord Finesse beat not a Mac Miller beat.Ĭoops: Yeh trust me, he would have got done for that as well In fact my friend Cameron said Coops is the only man that has done a Mac Miller beat justice. This mixtape was a collection of beats and covers with Nas Tracks and the use of the Lord Finesse tune which I liked the play on words similar to Kool-Aid and Frozen Pizza. So Coops, been in the game for around three years and so far you have released what I can see that came out in February 2013. On Coops arrival and sitting down to talk we exchange pleasantry’s and share a joke at the expense of my friend over his confusion of a Lord Finesse beat used by Mac Miller as the interview begins. After a tour of the studio I was ushered into the sound room to sit down with Kem, and given a preview of some of Coops unheard tracks as we waited for him to arrive.

Upon arrival I was met by Coops Manager Kem and his Business Partner Craig who head up the Dedicated Music Group. On a warm friday afternoon in March I traveled up to Coops studio in New Barnet for our meeting. Sitting down with Coops was enlightening, a real chance to get past the music and speak to him about his sound and how he found himself in the game and where he plans to go with it. From the experience I learnt a lot, but most importantly I got the chance to sit down with the artist. Given the size of my outfit I am nothing but grateful for Coops and his management for allowing the interview. Instead of simply reviewing an album I was conducing a serious interview. This was very much a first for Five Times Daily. Although a relative newcomer to the game (about three years) Coops has already put out two impressive mixtapes What Do You See (2013) & Lost Souls (2014) with a third project on the way Coops is tipped as one of the hottest artists of the current UK Hip-Hop scene and a few weeks ago I was given the chance to host an interview. A few months ago a good friend of mine put me on to up and coming north London artist who goes by the name Coops.
